Our Story

Millane Nurseries Historic owners

For about 100 years, Millane Nurseries grew and provided superior nursery-grown trees and shrubs to customers throughout the Northeast U.S.

In 1913, Cornelius A. Millane, Sr. (Neal) started his tree service. With little more than a small truck, a rope and hard work, he built a residential and commercial tree service; pruning, spraying, cabling and removing large trees along the East Coast. The nursery began in 1923 when he purchased property on Main Street in Cromwell. Through the depression he continued the tree service and heavily promoted the expanding nursery.

From the 1970’s through the 2000’s, C.A. Millane, Jr. (Connie), and his family expanded the nursery operations and Garden Center. We offered a wide selection of quality trees, shrubs, evergreens, annuals and perennials; as well as providing Okatsune pruning tools and laser printable outdoor labels to nurseries and garden centers nationwide. Unique, decorative giftware was procurred and sold as well.

Plant A Tree

For over a century, Millane Nurseries had literally changed the face of Connecticut and much of New England. From landscaping the CT State Capital Building to supplying many of the plants for interstate highways, state and local roads, cities, towns, parks, golf courses, cemeteries, universities, colleges, schools, office parks, commercial projects, businesses of all sizes and countless private residences; the Millane family has left a legacy of natural beauty for generations to enjoy.

Today, Michael and Laura Millane are both retired and living in Madison; but continue to help others with their knowledge and love of plants.
